Top Attractions in Kanchanaburi province

Kanchanaburi province is located in the west of Thailand and it's very popular for it's history during second world war. Tourists coming there from nearby provinces, especially from Bangkok which is only 129km (2-3hrs) from Kanchanaburi. Once you arrive there the biggest landmark is Bridge over the river KwaiI recommend you to stay in hotel near the bridge, because next morning you just easily walk to train station. We stayed in Kanchanaburi City Hotel which is only 3 minutes walk from the bridge. Hotel is very nice and clean with king size bed, swimming pool and they also sell a lot of tours which really worth it.

Next day after breakfast you should go to buy train tickets for 100thb each way from Kanchanaburi to Nam Tok, which is one of the most scenic and most popular train ride in Thailand. Many people wait there since morning to get in to the train, so there is almost no space to sit. Later we found out you can buy also first class ticket where is not so many people, because ticket is more expensive and you have to also throw ticket which you already bought before train departure, however If you want to enjoy scenery of Thailand-Burma Death Railway you should definitely go for it. You can sit by the window, take nice pictures and you don't need to stay any queue when you wish to look out. Fist class ticket also include water, coffee, tea and small snack.

When you reach Nam Tok station there will be a lot of taxi waiting for the customers. You can bargain to get good price to visit several attraction such as Hellfire Pass or Sai Yok Noi waterfall. You don't have too much time If you want to go back by train, because last one operate at 4pm.

Hellfire Pass form part of death railway built during second world war. This part was the most difficult section of line because it was the largest rock cutting of the railway and also because they didn't have proper tools and enough people to finish construction. You can also visit Hellfire pass museum and find out more about history which is very interesting.

Second day we attended one day tour which we bought in our hotel. You have always many option, however we choose trip included:
1. pick up and drop off in our hotel
2. elephant trekking
3. thai lunch
4. entrance to Erawan National park
5. bamboo rafting on the river Kwai
6. tour guide service
Erawan National Park with the most beautiful waterfalls I have ever seen in Thailand. Park is open daily from 7am to 4:30pm with entrance fee 300th for foreigners. Erawan waterfalls has many levels and tour guides recommend to go up as soon as possible, because later there will be a lot of Thai people and is quite difficult to walk. Once you go back from the top, you can choose level which you like the most, you can swim there and take a rest.

Kanchanaburi is such a beautiful relaxing place with nice people and we will definitely come back!
